This week, Monster Kid Radio gets futuristic . . . sort of . . . when Derek is joined by guest Dwight Kemper to discuss the film Frankenstein 1970 (dir. Howard W. Koch). Boris Karloff returns to a Frankenstein movie, but not as the monster. This time, Karloff plays the monster's creator! Listen to this episode to find out why this movie is so important to Dwight and his development as a monster kid. (And when you're done listening to this episode, be sure to check out Dwight's books!) Plus, you'll hear listener feedback and more movie trailers and radio ads than you probably care to hear (but Derek loves them and he can't help himself!). (And you can find Derek at this weekend's Wizard World Portland, along with friends of the show Sean Hoade and Tom Daufel!) Frank Schildiner loves the Frankenstein Monster, and he's on Monster Kid Radio this week to talk about his upcoming book The Triumph of Frankenstein (coming soon from Black Coat Press)! Frank and Derek talk writing, new pulp, classic pulp, a particular vampire hunter character from Marvel Comics . . . and then they finally get into a conversation about their Top Three Frankenstein Foes! Also, Derek has a quick teaser announcement about something a LOT of people have been asking about, and there's listener feedback, too! Derek will be at Wizard World Portland this weekend! Biff! Bam! Pow! Joe Stuber from Comic Book Central (http://www.comicbookcentral.net) returns to Monster Kid Radio this week to discuss the 1967 film Mad Monster Party? (dir. Jules Bass). This Rankin/Bass production has it all – monsters, music, great character design, and Boris Karloff! What more could a monster kid want? Before they get into the movie, though, Derek reviews some recent listener emails. Voicemail: 503-479-5MKR (503-479-5657) Theseus and the Minotaur - Coming Soon from Joshua Kennedy! Stephen D. Sullivan takes a break from http://cushinghorrors.com/ to join Derek for a conversation about Space Probe Taurus (dir. Leonard Katzman). They both saw the movie thanks to the television channel Comet, and you'll get to hear whether or not it was worth the space it took on their DVRs! Somehow, the conversation turned into a commercial for two of our favorite independent retro filmmakers - Christopher R. Mihm and Joshua Kennedy! Before wrapping up this week's episode, Derek reflects on the Ultraman double feature he recently attended at the Hollywood Theatre. Recent film school graduate Joshua Kennedy returns to Monster Kid Radio to talk about his most recent film - The Alpha Omega Man - and the next project in the works - Theseus and the Minotaur. Of course, a couple of monster kids can't get together to talk shop without several tangents turning up in the conversation, so everything from Star Wars to the Universal monster universe comes up as well! Also, Derek hears from a listener over 9000 miles away from Monster Kid Radio Central. Voicemail: 503-479-5MKR (503-479-5657) Theseus and the Minotaur - Coming Soon from Joshua Kennedy!
