We'll find out this week on Monster Kid Radio when Paul McComas returns to the show to discuss this 1980 film with Derek. Remember in the early days of Monster Kid Radio when Disney, Indiana's Scott Morris would swing by the show with a Christmas-themed monster movie around this time of year? We're bringing that tradition back in 2020 with 1996's The Munsters' Scary Little Christmas (dir. Ian Emes). It's a new cast, but do they deliver the same Munster fun? We'll find out. Along the way, Scott gives us an update on all things Disney, Indiana, and Derek even finds a way to talk about pro-wrestling. Mark Matzke wishes us an Ultra Merry Christmas with his Beta Capsule Review, and Kenny brings us back in time with a Captain Company Catalog in his Look at Famous Monsters of Filmland. The dust is still settling at MKR HQ and the massive 500th episode of the podcast, so this week Derek takes it a little easier and just kicks back to watch three movies . . . that many people have been shocked to hear that he's never taken the time to watch before. Invasion of the Body Snatchers (dir. Don Siegel), The Incredible Shrinking Man (dir. Jack Arnold), and The Innocents (dir. Jack Clayton) are all on deck, and after FINALLY watching these three classics, Derek shares his thoughts. Plus Kenny's Look at Famous Monsters of Filmland and Mark Matzke's Beta Capsule Review (featuring one of Derek's favorite episodes of "Ultra Q"). Also, we have some Listener Feedback to catch up on. Derek can think of very few things he's done consistently 500 times in a row, and he's so thankful to YOU, the listeners, the Monster Kids, the friends and fans, that have supported the podcast over the years! Surprisingly, The Creeping Terror was covered - with multiple pages - in Famous Monster of Filmland magazine, as Kenny's Look at FMoF will tell you. One of Derek's favorite things about producing Monster Kid Radio is when he gets to watch a new-to-him classic, or not-so-classic, monster movie. That is exactly what happened this week when author David Annandale returns to the podcast with The Flesh Eaters (dir. Jack Curtis). There are so many disparate elements coming together in this movie - the creator of DC Comics' Doom Patrol, a "Speed Racer" voice actor, a German actor with a decidedly German accent believably playing an American, mad science, unbelievable creatures, and gore effects almost as shocking as what would later be seen in Romero's Night of the Living Dead. Derek's been sitting on The Colossus of New York (dir. Eugène Lourié) for a while now (there's a reason for that, and it gets mentioned in this episode). When The Haunted Cinema's Todd Brown suggested discussing this movie on Monster Kid Radio, Derek decided to finally give it a go! This is a little movie that asks some big questions, and - SPOILER ALERT! - it's GOOD. Up until a few years ago, The Beast from the Beginning of Time (dir. Tom Leahy) was a movie that no one in the podosphere was talking about. As I've said on the podcast many times, I'm fascinated that so many Monster Kids and fans of classic horror and sci-fi movies end up in creative careers, or at least in creative hobbies. I know so many of you draw, write, craft, produce . . . and sometimes it's not even monster-kid-themed stuff! (And that's okay. No judgment!) During the Coronapocalypse, a lot of small businesses are taking a hit, and there are a number of suggestions online about how to support these businesses during this time.
I'm sure there are other businesses and makers doing similar things to make sure they'll survive and be around for us all once we come out on the other side of this pandemic. And I want to make sure the Monster Kid Radio audience knows about them. If you have an online business or have been forced to take your business online or virtual, and it's something you think Monster Kids would like to know about, contact me by email at monsterkidradio@gmail.com. I'd be happy to promote anything relevant through the podcast, or even during the Social Distance Saturday online movie screenings.

The movie that inspired this month's theme is on deck this week! The Satanic Rites of Dracula (dir. Alan Gibson) gets the Monster Kid radio treatment with returning guest Alistair Hughes. The last time Alistair was on the show was when he discussed Dracula A.D. 1972 (dir. Alan Gibson), and this week's film is a direct sequel to that film. How does it compare? Does it stand alone as it is? Listen to Alistair and Derek to find out. Derek has some other business to go over, Professor Frenzy has a Bedtime Story, and Kenny has a Look at Famous Monsters of Filmland. The second week of The Satanic Rites of January brings one of the most devilish of guests to the podcast - Scott Morris from Disney, Indiana. Scott and Derek discuss a movie Scott saw for the first time at a Monster Bash - The Black Cat (dir. Edgar G. Ulmer). To be able to see this film with a room full of monster kids must have been special, and it made quite the impression on Scott. We'll hear about it, as well as the recent Blu-ray release of the movie. Derek has some other business to go over, Professor Frenzy has a Bedtime Story, and Kenny has a Look at Famous Monsters of Filmland. Monster Kid Radio brings in the new year with a new monthly theme - The Satanic Rites of January! This week, Derek is joined by author/game designer/podcaster Kenneth Hite to discuss one of Val Lewton's most affecting films - 1943's The Seventh Victim (dir. Mark Robson). This one gets dark, and we can't think of a better way to start this month's devilish theme. Of course, the good Professor Frenzy has a Bedtime Story for everyone, and Kenny takes a somber look at Famous Monsters of Filmland.
