Monster Kid Radio #135 - Going 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea with Scott & Tracey Morris (plus Kodoja!)
Scott and Tracey Morris from Disney, Indiana are back on Monster Kid Radio, and it's all true. I swear by my tattoo . . . that they're going to talk with Derek about the 1954 film 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (dir. Richard Fleischer). This is a Disney classic, but it's also Monster Kid Radio fodder, and as you listen to Derek, Scott and Tracey talk about the film, you'll find out why. Also in this episode, Derek speaks with writer/musician/podcaster Keith Foster about Kodoja, a comic book filled to the giant gills with kiaju action and destruction. There's a Kickstarter campaign right now to collect the first five issues of the series in a nice hardcover edition, and Keith's going to tell us about the rewards you can get while making this hardcover a reality. Derek's mother came to visit, and he talked her into appearing on an episode of Monster Kid Radio. Want to hear some of Derek's origin as a monster kid? In Episode #134, Derek's mom spills some of the beans about what little Derek did growing up. (And, finally . . . FINALLY his mother lets Derek off the hook for something he did twenty years ago!) Be sure to visit our complete website at http://www.monsterkidradio.net (where you can see pics of Derek from past Halloweens). Monster Kid Radio #133 - The Phantom of the Opera at the Historic Artcraft Theatre with Scott & Tracey Morris
Lon Chaney is a monster movie and Hollywood legend, and returning guests Scott & Tracey Morris were fortunate enough to watch the master in the 1925 film The Phantom of the Opera (dir. Rupert Julian) at the Historic Artcraft Theatre last weekend. This was a first-time viewing for them, and they share their thoughts about the film, and the screening, with Derek and Monster Kid Radio. The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (dir. Robert Wiene) is clearly one of the most important horror films of all time, and Greg Starrett joins Derek at Monster Kid Radio to tell us why. By the time they're done, you'll agree his film influenced movies, monster and otherwise, for years to come! When we think about the classic monster movie actors, we think about names like Karloff, Lugosi, Chaney, etc. In this episode of Monster Kid Radio, Greg Starrett (the co-author of Fit for a Frankenstein) is going to help us add the name Conrad Veidt to that list. Derek welcomes Greg to the show, and before they dive into a conversation about The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (dir. Robert Wiene), Greg gives us a primer on the man who played a sleepwalker in that film but by no means sleptwalk through his role.
