Derek takes Monster Kid Radio back in time to one of the first Monster Kid Radio Crash events - last year's screening of the original King Kong (dir. Merian C. Cooper) at the Hollywood Theatre. Chris McMillan was also there, so he and Derek spent some time before and after the screening to talk about their history with the film and their overall thoughts. We also hear from one of our listeners/future guests about a . . . unique Kickstarter project he has in the works. Derek reviews some feedback Monster Kid Radio has received about a movie previously covered on the show and a movie that we may cover here on the show down the line. Plus, previous guests (Joe Stuber and Rich Chamberlain), and someone I've been talking to about being a guest in the future (Joe Blevins), lend their contributions to Episode #067 of Monster Kid Radio. After the movie (El Santo vs Las Momias de Guanajuato (dir. Federico Curiel) - go check out the previous episode to hear Derek and company's response to the screening), Cinescopio presented a panel featuring John Cárdenas and Enrique Caizero discussing the film, the lucha libre's time and place in Mexican culture, and what lucha libre continues to offer fans today. It was a fun and lively discussion, and hopefully will leave you wanting more (it definitely left Derek and company having a hard time waiting until the next El Santo film in the Cinescopio series next month at the Hollywood Theatre in Portland, Oregon. Last week, Monster Kid Radio crashed a screening of El Santo vs Las Momias de Guanajuato (dir. Federico Curiel) at the Hollywood Theatre in Portland, Oregon. Derek brought his recorder, and met up with frequest Monster Kid Radio guests Chris McMillan and Ray Jelinek . . . and had a BLAST. In Part One of MKR's coverage of the screening, Derek and company talk about their expectations of the film going into the screening, thrill to exploits of El Santo and company, marvel at the parenting skills of Blue Demon, and wish they could get it done in the ring like Mil Máscaras. Monster Kid Radio #064 - Abbott and Costello Meet the Killer, Boris Karloff and Joe Stuber - Part Two
What was Derek's favorite scene in Abbott and Costello Meet the Killer, Boris Karloff (dir. Charles Barton)? What is another one of Joe Stuber's favorite Abbott and Costello movies (hint - it doesn't include the word Meet in its title)? And why is Derek recording the intro and outro of this episode in a gym? You'll find out in this episode of Monster Kid Radio! Derek and Joe continue their discussion of A&CMtK,BK, and you'll get to decide what impression Joe does best - Bane or a bear. Monster Kid Radio #063 - Abbott and Costello Meet the Killer, Boris Karloff and Joe Stuber - Part One
Joe Stuber is back with the boys to talk with Derek about Abbott and Costello Meet the Killer, Boris Karloff (dir. Charles Barton). Joe first appeared on Monster Kid Radio last July (Episode 015 & Episode 016) to talk about the first Bud and Lou monster romp, and since then he and Derek have decided to tackle the rest of the Abbott and Costello Meet... films. In 1949, they found themselves mixed up in a murder mystery involving Boris Karloff and six other potential killers, and from the sounds of it, Lou Costello himself barely survived the experience! How does one determine the provenance of The Skull (dir. Freddie Francis)? Let's try to find out as Larry "Dr. Gangrene" Underwood's stint on Monster Kid Radio continues in Part Two of his discussion with Derek about this classic Amicus production starring Peter Cushing. They continue to discuss the story, the studio, and the format Amicus is best known for - the portmanteau film. It's time for another visit from your favorite doctor when Larry Underwood, aka Dr. Gangrene, returns to Monster Kid Radio. This time, Larry brings an old friend to the show. That friend? Peter Cushing. Larry and Derek take a look at the Amicus classic The Skull (dir. Freddie Francis) in this week's episodes of Monster Kid Radio, and they didn't even have to rob any graves to do it . . . much to Larry's dismay.
