Monster Kid Radio's Derek M. Koch hosted and introduced the five films shown at this year's Scare-A-Thon at the Joy Cinema in Tigard, OR . . . and if you were there, you know it was a good time. But if you weren't, MKR has you covered as Derek brought his portable recorder along! You'll get to hear the film introductions, chats with Dominique Lamssies and Jeff Polier, and announcements about the future of the Plan 9 by 9 podcast and where Monster Kid Radio will turn up next! Dr. Tongue is back with a trip to the World of Monster Collectibles, Kenny takes a Look at Famous Monsters of Filmland, Professor Frenzy tells us a Bedtime Story, and listener Jeff Beal interviews horror host Lord Blood-Rah. This week, Derek checks in with the Physician of Fright, the one and only Dr. Gangrene (aka Larry Underwood) before exploring horrors From Beyond the Grave (dir. Kevin Conner). This 1974 portmanteau film features one of Monster Kid Radio's favorite Peters, and Derek and Larry can't stop gushing about the Cushing. Also, in the grand comic book tradition of crossovers, this week's episode of MKR crosses over with the most recent episode of Disney, Indiana, when Derek chats with DI's Tracey and Scott Morris about two graphic novels combining classic Disney characters with classic horror literature. On MKR, they discuss Disney Dracula, starring Mickey Mouse (and discover a new top-rated take on Van Helsing!). (Derek joined Tracey and Scott for Episode 296 of Disney, Indiana, to discuss Disney Frankenstein, starring Donald Duck.) Monster Kid Radio #441 - Talking About Spook Shows with Lisa Petrucci, Howie Pyro, and Mark Pedersen
Where's that time machine? Derek wants to go back in time to go to an honest-to-goodness spook show! Until he finds that time machine, though, he'll settle for talking about the cultural phenomenon that was the spook show with fellow enthusiasts Lisa Petrucci (Something Weird Video), Howie Pyro (Intoxica Radio), and Mark Pederesen (Dr. Tongue's I HAD THAT SHOPPE!). Kenny asks a familiar question during his Look at Famous Monsters of Filmland, and Professor Frenzy tucks us in with a Bedtime Story. Monster Kid Radio has been tackling some 1970s monster movies lately, and since Derek misses the bonafide classics, it's time to howl at the moon with Stephen D. Sullivan as they discuss The Wolf Man (dir. George Waggner). One of the icons of classic Universal monsters, Lon Chaney's portrayal of Larry Talbot is affecting and effecting, and Steve and Derek just can't enough. Kenny's Look at Famous Monsters of Filmland shows us how that magazine covered The Wolf Man. Professor Frenzy has a Bedtime Story. Dr. Tongue takes us to the World of Monster Collectibles. And MORE. Is it too easy of a joke to say the 1970s . . . sucked? Get it? Because . . . vampires? Nevermind. This week on Monster Kid Radio, Derek is joined by filmmaker Sébastien Godin (Slimoids, Lycanimator, Ouija Mummy) to talk about vampire movies of the 70s. They go over their own personal Top Three 1970s Vampire Movies lists, but that's not all. Seb is exploring his love of vampire films with his upcoming film Blood Rites of the Vampyr. There are a few days left to contribute to this film's crowdfunding campaign, and this week, Seb tells us about the film, his inspirations, and his future goals. (Derek REALLY wants to see this movie!) And, of course, no episode of Monster Kid Radio would be complete without a Professor Frenzy's Bedtime Story or Kenny's Look at Famous Monsters of Filmland.
