The 1970s was a good decade for horror on American television, and this week, the Diecast Movie Review's Steve Turek returns to the show to share his love of 1972's Gargoyles (dir. Bill Norton) with Derek and the Monster Kid Radio listeners. If he's able to survive their encounter with gargoyle'd Bernie Casey, Derek will also review Listener Feedback and welcome Kenny back to the show for another Look at Famous Monsters of Filmland. After almost four years, Rod Barnett (NaschyCast and The Bloody Pit of Rod) returns to Monster Kid Radio to finally continue their journey through Antonio Margheriti's Gamma One series of films. The War of the Planets is on deck, and it's a wild ride. Also, the 2020 Monster Movie Madness comes to an end with Diecast Movie Review's Steve Turek, and Kenny has another fantastic Look at Famous Monsters of Filmland. And is that Customer Feedback? Up until a few years ago, The Beast from the Beginning of Time (dir. Tom Leahy) was a movie that no one in the podosphere was talking about. That changed when Rich Chamberlain introduced it to the late podcasting legend Vince Rotolo, and since then, the movie has only gained notoriety . . . slowly. This week, Rich and Derek discuss the film and its growing legacy. Also, Steve Turek returns to review the results of the Frightful Four Vote-Off in this year's Monster Movie Madness Tournament, Listener Feedback, and Kenny's Look at Famous Monsters of Filmland. You've no idea how long Derek has wanted to talk about Dracula vs. Frankenstein (dir. Al Adamson) on Monster Kid Radio, and, finally, after over 450 episodes, he's making it happen. He's joined by writer Stephen D. Sullivan to talk about the movie, what it means to them, and why it's a lot better than people give it credit for. Steve Turek stops by to go over the latest results in the 2020 Monster Movie Madness tournament, and Kenny has another great look at Famous Monsters of Filmland. As I've said on the podcast many times, I'm fascinated that so many Monster Kids and fans of classic horror and sci-fi movies end up in creative careers, or at least in creative hobbies. I know so many of you draw, write, craft, produce . . . and sometimes it's not even monster-kid-themed stuff! (And that's okay. No judgment!) During the Coronapocalypse, a lot of small businesses are taking a hit, and there are a number of suggestions online about how to support these businesses during this time.
I'm sure there are other businesses and makers doing similar things to make sure they'll survive and be around for us all once we come out on the other side of this pandemic. And I want to make sure the Monster Kid Radio audience knows about them. If you have an online business or have been forced to take your business online or virtual, and it's something you think Monster Kids would like to know about, contact me by email at monsterkidradio@gmail.com. I'd be happy to promote anything relevant through the podcast, or even during the Social Distance Saturday online movie screenings.
