Monster Kid Radio isn't the only monster-themed podcast in the Pacific Northwest. Kyle Yount has been talking about "Godzilla and all of his rubber-suited foes" on the Kaijucast since 2009. Since then, he's been able to do some amazing things, like introducing King Kong vs. Godzilla (dir. Ishirō Honda) at the Hollywood Theatre in 2012 for that film's 50-year anniversary. Son of Ghostman was screened at Monster Bash, and ever since Larry "Dr. Gangrene" Underwood put the movie on the 2013 Monster Kid Radio Holiday Gift Guide, Derek has been eager to watch it. Not only did he watch it (and enjoy it!), he had a chance to speak with the film's director, Kurt Larson. Derek attended the 2014 World Horror Convention in Portland, Oregon, last weekend. The convention was a horror writer's paradise, and Derek spoke with fellow podcaster Desmond Reddick (from the Dread Media podcast) about his experiences at the convention, and even plays a round of the MKR Classic Five. Kyle Yount is the producer and host of the Kaijucast, the world's premier Godzilla-related podcast, and August Ragone has been called the best Japanese fantasy film historian working in English today. The original Godzilla (dir. Ishirô Honda) is in the middle of a limited theatrical run, and Monster Kid Radio crashed a screening at Portland's Hollywood Theatre. Last weekend was the 2014 H. P. Lovecraft Film Festival & CthulhuCon, and Monster Kid Radio was there! For three days, Lovecraft fans took over Portland's Hollywood Theatre for feature films, short movies, author readings and signings, panel discussions, madness-inducing parties...so basically just a really good time! Derek was a small part of the show this year as he was asked to introduce the 1968 film Curse of the Crimson Altar (dir. Vernon Sewell), as well as participate in one of the panels. The final installment of the 2014 Cinescopio film series happened March 20, 2014, and Derek was there. The movie? Santo and Blue Demon Against the Monsters (dir. Gilberto Martínez Solares). The event? A Monster Kid Radio Crash. In 1967, Sheriff Clint Crawford (played by John Agar, one of the patron saints of Monster Kid Radio) saved a small Texas town from a mutant monster running amok in Night Fright (dir. James A. Sullivan). In 2013, a similar mutant monster will take another crack at the earth, and filmmaker Dennis Vincent aims to tell that tale. The latest Monster Kid Radio Crash happened last week at the Hollywood Theatre, and not even invading martians could keep us away! Derek was joined by Ray Jelinek, Chris McMillan (The Shadow Over Portland), Tom Daufel, and Rick Myers (The Recovering Ubergeek), and they watched Santo el Enmascarado de Plata vs 'La invasión de los marcianos' (dir. Alfredo B. Crevenna), aka Santo vs. the Martian Invasion. But that wasn't all! As part of the Cinescopio film series, the gang was able to watch the short documentary Viva Lucha Libre (dir. Brad Bemis) as part of the double feature that evening.

Stephen D. Sullivan really likes The Son of Kong (dir. Ernest B. Schoedsack), and as his discussion about the film with Derek continues, you'll find out why! There are a number of successes present in the film (Robert Armstrong turns in a performance that rivals his performance in King Kong, Willis H. Monster kid and sculptor Tom Biegler returns to Monster Kid Radio this week, and he's bringing a couple of silicates with him! (That's his sculpture in the episode image!) Before Monster Kid Radio was launched, Tom showed Derek a movie called Island of Terror (dir. Terence Fisher), and that movie quickly became one of Derek's favorite non-Hammer Peter Cushing films. What Disney film did Derek's fifth grade teacher show him . . . that TERRIFIED him? Find out in this episode of Monster Kid Radio when Scott Morris join him for Part Two of their discussion of monster kid friendly Disney films. This time, Scott and Derek go over their top three scary Disney films. After getting scared by Mickey Mouse (for real!), Derek heads to Portland's Hollywood Theatre for a screening of 1974's The 7 Brothers Meet Dracula (dir. Roy Ward Baker, Cheh Chang). This was a Monster Kid Radio Crash, and Derek ran into a familiar face after the show - Chris McMillan from The Shadow Over Portland. Also in this episode, Derek checks out a television show from the 70s that ran by two different names - "Ghost Story" and "Circle of Fear." This series was recently released on DVD by Sony, and Derek will let you know if you need some Winston Essex in your life. Derek will also let you know if you need the movie Dawn of Dracula (dir. Blake Powell) in your life when he talks about the feature-length film from the gang from Midnite Mausoleum. Marlena Midnite and Robyn Graves aren't hosting horror movies anymore - now they're in one, and they've brought all their charm, humor, and quirkiness to this homage to 1970s Eurohorror.
